ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Powerball jackpot is surging closer and closer to the $1 billion mark.
It currently sits at $930 million for the next drawing, scheduled for Wednesday night, and is the seventh-largest jackpot in the game's history.
There have been 40 consecutive drawings without the top prize being claimed.
The Powerball jackpot was last won on Sept. 6 by two tickets in Missouri and Texas that split a $1.787 billion prize.
Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
If it is won Wednesday night and the winner takes the lump sum, the prize would be $429 million.
