A "high risk' rescue was under way for a male hiker who was stuck on Camelback Mountain overnight, according to Phoenix Fire Department officials.
A police helicopter began lifting multiple rescuers onto the Echo Canyon area, where the man is stuck, at about 8 a.m.
Fire officials said a drone was used to bring the man a cell phone, water and a blanket to stay in communication and warm through the nighttime hours.
Fire officials were unsure how the hiker got into his position in the Echo Canyon area near the Camel's Head portion of the mountain.
Camelback Mountain has been closed to hikers for erosion issues after recent storms, officials said.
This is a "high risk, low frequency" rescue, according to Phoenix Fire Capt. DJ Lee.
