The 13 th -ranked Longhorns (9-3), like other programs that fell just outside the cutline such as No. 11 Notre Dame and No. 14 Vanderbilt, believe their resume was good enough to earn an at-large playoff bid.

Texas closed the regular season with a 27-17 victory over then-undefeated Texas A&M – its sixth win in the last seven games. It is the only team with three wins over top-10 teams this season, but it also is the only team in the top 15 with three regular-season losses. All three came on the road, including two against playoff-bound Georgia and Ohio State, but the other was against a Florida team that finished 4-8.
