RICHLAND COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — An investigation is underway after human skeletal remains were found in a detached garage of an abandoned residence on Crestline Blooming Grove Road in Richland County .

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office said it was around 1:25 p.m. on Dec. 7 when their office received a 911 call reporting the discovery of possible human remains.

After responding to the scene and concluding the discovery was consistent with human remains, authorities contacted the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

Multiple agencies -- including the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) -- arrived at the location the following day to complete the processing of the scene.

The skeletal remains were collected by Mercyhurst University's Forensic Anthropology Team for identification.
