ESOPUS - A Kingston man was killed Dec. 8 when his car collided with a stopped construction vehicle on the thruway, according to a statement from law enforcement.
State police said the crash happened at about 11:15 a.m. on Dec. 8, near thruway milepost marker 80.7 in the Town of Esopus.
According to state police, a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2021 Mercedes Benz driven by David Moyal, 60, of Kingston, was northbound in the left lane of the Thruway when it struck a stopped 2003 Freightliner construction vehicle.
The Freightliner was positioned straddling the shoulder and partially in the left lane as part of a construction operation. It was one of several construction vehicles in place to divert traffic from the left lane to the right lane while a crew installed construction
