A survivor at the centre of calls for a full inquiry into grooming gangs in Scotland says she felt “heard” at a meeting with the First Minister – but still fears the government’s planned review won’t be independent enough. ‌

“Taylor”, not her real name, met John Swinney privately at Bute House after weeks of pressure on ministers to acknowledge what victims and campaigners describe as a longstanding failure to protect vulnerable girls in care from organised sexual exploitation by adult men. ‌

Speaking immediately after the meeting, Taylor told STV News that the conversation had been emotional and difficult, coming after 15 years of silence about the abuse she suffered as a teenager living in care. ‌
