Whether a London man with a history of mental health issues will face a dangerous offender designation for fatally stabbing his neighbour at a boarding house is uncertain.

The Crown still is waiting for approval from the provincial attorney-general to proceed with the application for dangerous offender or long-term offender status for Robert Charnock, 42, who was found guilty in July 2024 in the brutal stabbing death of Kenneth Wallis , 56, on Dec. 8, 2021.

The Crown has previously told Superior Court Justice Helen Rady that, as part of the sentencing process, it wanted to seek the designation that can lead to an indeterminate sentence.
