A local vehicle exporting business has been hit with a $36.9-million penalty for selling 2,300 vehicles from Ontario to West Africa and not reporting the sale, Canada Border Services Agency officials say.
The agency, aided by London police, says it investigated the exporter from 2023 to 2025, seizing more than 750,000 documents after search warrants were issued in London.
“The multi-million-dollar penalty attached to the outcome of this investigation sends a strong reminder to commercial exporters that they will be held accountable for not respecting mandatory reporting requirements and Canadian laws,” read a statement from Dominic Mallette, regional director general of the Canada Border Services Agency’s Atlantic region.
