Qdoba Mexican Eats is planning to add dozens of restaurants across the mid-Atlantic as part of a broader expansion effort.
The fast-casual chain said it will open nearly 90 new locations across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, according to a news release on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Qdoba reached deals with regional franchise operators to increase its presence in the Northeast.
The move marks one of Qdoba's largest expansion waves as the company competes with rivals like Chipotle and Moe's Southwest Grill.
"Proven, multi-brand operators know what works in their portfolios, and they're choosing Qdoba because it allows them to diversify into the rapidly growing Mexican fast-casual category," said chief development officer Jeremy Vitaro. "They see strong unit economics, a concept that travels well across trade areas, and food guests come back for. From bold flavors to built-in value like free guacamole and queso, QDOBA gives them confidence to grow."
The Rose Group agreed to operate 35 Qdoba restaurants in Pennsylvania and South Jersey, along with acquiring two corporate locations in State College and Williamsport, PA. The franchisee runs 55 Applebee's Grill + Bar restaurants and The Shannon Rose Irish Pubs across the mid-Atlantic.
Doherty Enterprises signed a 27-restaurant development agreement to operate Qdoba locations in North and Central Jersey, along with the Hudson Valley and Capital Region of New York. Doherty runs more than 140 East Coast restaurants for chains like Applebee's and Panera Bread.
Cafua Management Company has committed to 25 restaurants in New York's Mohawk Valley and Finger Lakes regions. The Tattva Group acquired Qdoba locations in south-central Pennsylvania, along with signing on for additional development.
Qdoba is hoping to open more than 100 restaurants annually by 2027, with a goal of doubling its US footprint by 2032. Along with the Northeast, the company is also eyeing expansion in California, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas.
There are about 830 Qdoba locations in 45 states, along with restaurants in Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico, and South Korea.
