GRAND ISLAND, Neb (KSNB) — Plumbing professionals are warning homeowners to take preventive measures to protect their pipes from costly damage as temperatures drop below freezing.
Ty Rust, owner of Island Plumbing in Grand Island, said winter is the busiest time of year for burst pipe repairs. Many homeowners don’t realize damage has occurred until temperatures warm up.
“A lot of times there’s a cold snap and when it warms up, that’s when people find them,” Rust said. “You won’t know it’s there until it thaws, and that’s when you will have issues.”
Matt Albers, president of Winnsupply in Grand Island, said his company stays well-stocked during winter months because of increased demand from busy plumbers.
