A British Indian nurse has been jailed for a series of sexual offences committed against vulnerable female staff at a care home in Scotland more than seven years ago. Naijil Paul, 47, originally from Kerala, received a prison term of seven years and nine months after he admitted to rape and multiple sexual assaults while serving as the manager of a North Lanarkshire care home.

According to news agency PTI , he was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday after his extradition from India earlier this year.

Paul had been due to face trial in December 2019 but fled to Kochi shortly before proceedings, claiming a family emergency. He was arrested in February and extradited from Delhi to Scotland in June before entering guilty pleas in October.
