CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) — The South Carolina Department of Revenue has charged a man for allegedly evading thousands in sales tax.
Gurvinder Singh, 33, of Hanahan, is charged with five counts of tax evasion, SCDOR officials said in a release.
The arrest warrant stated that Singh, who is the owner and operator of Indu Vanty, a liquor store and two convenience stores, reported more than $3 million in net taxable sales for all three stores to his accountant from 2019-2023.
Further investigation revealed that he made above $5.2 million in sales, which resulted in him evading more than $199,000 in sales tax.
Singh was booked into the Charleston County Jail, where he was released on a personal recognizance.
