ROSENDALE – Two elderly people were killed when the car in which they were riding just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, was struck by another vehicle on the northbound Thruway in the Town of Rosendale.
State Police from the Kingston Thruway barracks said the investigation found that their 2007 Nissan was traveling southbound on the Thruway and entered the U-turn. A 2023 Kia was going northbound in the left lane when it collided with the Nissan as it was making the U-turn into the northbound lanes.
The impact caused the Nissan to roll over several times while the Kia left the left lane and struck a guide rail.
The passenger in the Nissan, identified as Esther Oliveras, 81, of Elizaville, died at the scene, troopers said.
