Police are at the scene of a "serious" motorway collision that has sparked massive rush hour delays.

The accident has happened between Junctions 47 for the A483 and Junction 46 for the A48.

A statement from South Wales Police says: "We're at the scene of a serious collision on the M4 Eastbound between Junctions 47 to 46. Traffic is currently backing up. It is expected to remain closed for some time; please avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. We're grateful for your patience."
