Malik Masud says he tried to be strong for his family despite the intense emotional pain he felt after losing his 18-year-old daughter Alina as a result of a crash on Highway 406 last week.

“This is such a formidable experience. Nobody ever wants to go through this,” he said.

“Obviously, I hoped an older person like myself would go first, but it (death) can come anytime and take anybody.”

On Dec. 3, Alina was a passenger in a vehicle travelling south on the 406 at about 8:30 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle while making a turn. She was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled over onto the centre median, and landed in a lane of traffic on the highway. She died after being hit by a passing vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.
