DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) - Iowa’s unemployment rate decreased from August to September 2025. Still, the state saw an increase of four-tenths of a point compared to September 2024, according to employment data released by the Iowa Department of Workforce Development.
The partial federal government shutdown delayed the compilation of the September numbers, which show challenges in Iowa’s economy despite some positive monthly trends.
Over 8,000 more people are unemployed in Iowa than a year ago, even though the state added thousands of jobs over the past year.
