NORFOLK, Va. — A man has received two life sentences for a 2023 shooting that killed a woman and seriously injured a man, leaving him paralyzed.

Curtis Gerald Smith, 44, was sentenced to two life terms plus 13 years after he was found guilty at trial of first-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, two counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony, and being a violent felon in possession of a firearm.

The sentence was handed down Dec. 5.

Smith fatally shot 24-year-old Precious Larchae McClendon at the intersection of Brambleton Avenue and Church Street after midnight on Sept. 3, 2023, according to the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. He then shot a witness who was running away from the gunfire.
