PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The FBI is warning consumers about increased scam activity targeting holiday shoppers two weeks before Christmas.

Heith Janke, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Phoenix Field Office , said fraudsters are working overtime during the holiday season to steal personal and financial information from online shoppers.

“We wish these cyber criminals and fraudsters would take the holiday season off,” Janke said.

How shopping scams work

Scammers send emails advertising deals on popular Christmas items with links to malicious websites, Janke said.

“And when you get that email, there’s going to be a link in it. And when you click that, it takes you to a malicious website. So where you think you’re entering your information to make that great purchase, now you’ve given them
