Secretary of State Marco Rubio has ordered the State Department to stop using the Calibri font and return to Times New Roman for official documents. The move reverses a 2023 decision under President Biden’s administration that had switched the department’s typeface to Calibri.

Rubio said the change was needed to restore professionalism and tradition in government writing. He called Calibri “too casual” and said the Times New Roman better reflects the seriousness of U.S. diplomacy. His memo instructed all embassies and offices to use 14-point Times New Roman in their communications.
