Looking back at Sarasota, Manatee all-time state football championship teams

SARASOTA — Call them our Fab 14.

The 14 high school football teams from Sarasota and Manatee counties to win FHSAA state titles all share the element of greatness. The 1972 Cardinal Mooney team, coached by John Heath Sr. and quarterbacked by son John Jr., was the first. Three years later, the 1975 Palmetto High club captured the first crown in Manatee County.
