A split Frederick County school board approved a gender affirmation policy that will continue to allow students to play on sports teams and use facilities consistent with their gender identity. The vote was 4-2.

The policy, known as Policy 443, for years has garnered both criticism and support publicly from students, teachers, community members and school board members.
