George Washington swept top billing in Mountain State Athletic Conference preseason basketball billing, claiming the No. 1 spot in both boys and girls play in coaches’ balloting released this week.
In girls hoops tabulations, the Patriots edged out defending Class AAAA state champion Spring Valley for the top spot entering the season.
George Washington gained 85 polling points on the strength of six first-place votes. The Timberwolves, reclassified by the WVSSAC into Class AAA this season, checked in with 80 points, on three No. 1 tags.
No. 3 Parkersburg (74), Cabell Midland (65) and Huntington (51) rounded out the top five. Parkersburg South and St. Albans tied for sixth with 35 points. No. 8 Hurricane (33), Riverside (20) and Capital (17) completed the top 10.
