GEORGIA, USA — Lawmakers in Congress are set to vote Thursday on whether to extend enhanced subsidies under the Affordable Care Act. These subsidies provide extra financial help to lower premiums for people buying insurance through the Marketplace.

The vote comes as many Georgians face uncertainty about their coverage for the upcoming year. Melissa Camp, director of Insure Georgia, a nonprofit that helps residents access coverage, said the stakes are high.

“It’s a challenge this year and we’re trying to meet it with everybody that we can. My heart goes out to a lot of them that just can’t deal with it,” Camp said.

For Angelia Hoomes, a Macon resident, these subsidies are more than just financial assistance they are a lifeline.
