Tension escalated in Rajasthan's Hanumangarh district as farmers and opposition leaders pledged ongoing protests against a contentious ethanol factory until their demands are addressed. The unrest, fueled by an internet blackout, saw families evacuating the vicinity out of fear.
Violence erupted when hundreds of farmers besieged the construction site of Dune Ethanol Pvt Ltd, demolishing the boundary and setting fires. Clashes with police, who responded with lathicharge and tear gas, resulted in injuries to more than 50 individuals.
Local authorities emphasize that the ethanol plant has all necessary approvals. However, tensions linger as farmer groups demand environmental clearance and community consent. Dialogue between the administration and protesters is expected soon.
