IRON RIVER – West Iron began the 2025-26 girls basketball season with a bang, sinking 10 3-point shots on their way to a 49-20 triumph over Iron Mountain on Tuesday at Charles Greenlund Gymnasium.
Lacey Shamion and Bristol Shamion buried three triples each to go with two each from Lily DeSousa and Cami Alexa against the Mountaineers’ 2-3 zone.
“It’s been many years since West Iron has had that many 3-pointers,” WIC Eric Shamion said. “I thought in the half-court set, we were patient, we worked the ball around the perimeter and I thought when we did take our outside shots, they were calculated.”
After Iron Mountain sophomore Monroe Vedin started the game with a pair of buckets, Bristol Shamion got WIC’s outside game going with a 3-pointer from the corner.
