OSAKIS — The Osakis City Council got to play Santa Claus just a little bit at the Dec. 8 Truth In Taxation Hearing.
City Clerk Angela Jacobson says, “Typically we have our preliminary budget in September. We have to certify it to the county. But there's still time to finalize the budget. There were some things that changed: some revenues increased, some expenditures increased and decreased. And after I did some of those adjustments, we had some extra funds in there so we could reduce it by half a percent and still be in the plus or positive.”
So the City Council was able to approve a 4.5% tax levy increase for 2026 instead of a 5% increase at Monday night’s meeting.
