Figures released today by Public Health Scotland (PHS) reveal that confirmed flu cases have surged by 24% over the past week, climbing from 1,875 to 2,331. Meanwhile, hospital admissions linked to flu have also risen, increasing by approximately 15% from 860 to 986.

Health officials are emphasising that there's still time to receive the flu jab ahead of the festive period. PHS warns that flu can "seriously disrupt" daily life for anyone, but that certain groups face heightened risks.

Those aged 65 and above, pregnant women, and people with pre-existing health conditions are particularly vulnerable to severe flu complications, including hospitalisation and, in some instances, death. The vaccination programme specifically targets these at-risk groups.
