A fire at a Barberton residence Dec. 10 resulted in the death of one individual and the hospitalization of another, Barberton Fire officials announced.

Fire crews responded to reports of smoke and flames coming from the second floor of a residence in the 100 block of 16th Street Northwest, according to a release from the fire department. The first firefighters on the scene found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second-story windows and learned there were possible victims trapped inside the building.
