PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - After President Donald Trump unveiled a $12 billion support package for U.S. farmers, those in Central Illinois are reacting to the funding.
Trump announced the $12 billion aid program Monday, funded by this year’s tariff revenues. The package includes up to approximately $12 billion in one-time payments distributed through a new program run by the United States Department of Agriculture to assist American farmers in response to temporary trade market disruptions.
The long-term effects for Illinois farmers remain unclear.
“It’s important that we look at the big picture and our thinking about ways to address long-term situations,” said Charlie Hensley, Manager of the Peoria County Farm Bureau.
