In an unexpected twist, Brian Walshe’s defense rested its case Thursday morning without calling a single witness.
Without jurors in the room, defense lawyer Larry Tipton told Judge Diane Freniere that Walshe was no longer going to testify in his own defense. On Wednesday, the defense raised several issues related to Walshe’s potential testimony, she said.
Tipton then confirmed to Freniere that the defense would not be calling any other witnesses.
As a result, Freniere set closing arguments for Friday morning.
Walshe, 50, is accused of killing his wife, Ana, in their home on the early morning of New Year’s Day 2023, then dismembering her body and disposing of her remains at dumpsters across the state.
