Student achievement, long-term planning and a heartfelt farewell marked the USD 253 Board of Education’s final meeting of the year Monday, where members celebrated JAG-K successes and approved the 2026–27 academic calendar.
JAG-K program showcases student achievement
The meeting opened with an overview of Emporia High School’s JAG-K program, which focuses on preparing students for future careers and leadership roles through academic, social and workforce development.
JAG-K specialist Ramsey Siebert said students are selected by a committee of principals and counselors to ensure the program serves those who benefit most. The curriculum includes 37 core competencies—covering communication, problem-solving, teamwork, résumé writing and financial literacy—organized under categories such as
