Former Florida baseball slugger Pete Alonso is on the move.
Alonso is finalizing a five-year, $155 free agent deal to sign with the Baltimore Orioles , according to ESPN.com's Jeff Passan.
In agreeing to the deal, Alonso's $31 million average annual salary will rank second in MLB for first basemen, behind only Toronto's Vladamir Guerrero Jr. ($35.7 million).
Alonso spent the first seven years of his MLB career with the New York Mets, where he won NL Rookie of the Year honors in 2019 by socking 53 home runs. He had two more seasons belting 40 or more home runs and surpassed Darryl Strawberry as the franchise leader for home runs (264) this season.
