Nongpoh, Dec 11: The State’s first Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Pahamsyiem in Ri-Bhoi district was inaugurated today by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

The event also marked the launch of the fist academic session of the EMRS, implemented by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to provide free education to ST children from class VI to XII in residential set up.

Sangma said the EMRS programme is a blessing for the state’s students, providing them with access to high-quality education backed by the central government.

He said education was not merely about “teaching, textbooks, or exams”, but about shaping the future of the state and instilling values that define a strong society. “The true measure of education lies in the quality of students and the values they uphold,” he added.
