ANN ARBOR, MI - Sherrone Moore has spent about a day in Washtenaw County Jail. Without any charges by Friday afternoon, he will be released pending some exceptions.

The county jail has guidelines on holding people without charges. The most recent policy was signed April 28, 2025 by Washtenaw County Sheriff Alyshia Dyer.

An individual is entitled to an arraignment within 48 hours after a warrantless arrest, the policy states. A warrantless arrest may be done if an officer is notified that “a felony has been committed and (there is) reasonable cause to believe the person committed it,” Michigan law states .

Washtenaw policy states that an arraignment laying out charges must be completed within 48 hours, as well as a warrant signed by a judge or magistrate.
