VIRGINIA — A SECOND GRAND JURY HANDED A STUNNING BLOW to the U.S. Justice Department by refusing to re-indict NY Attorney General Letitia James on charges of mortgage fraud, the Associated Press reported on Thursday, Dec. 11.
A federal judge last month threw out an indictment on the grounds that the prosecutor, Lindsey Halligan, had been illegally appointed as U.S. Attorney for Eastern Virginia. Another grand jury in Virginia last week refused to re-indict James and Comey. The court rulings are seen as a major rebuke of the current administration’s insistence on prosecuting President Donald Trump’s political opponents. James also said she believes the case is politically-motivated, as she won several cases against President Trump before his 2024 election to a second term.
