EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The redistricting bill that passed the Indiana House last week has failed to pass the senate with a 31-19 vote.
The new map was drawn up by the National Republican Redistricting Trust.
Officials say it was designed to deliver all nine of the state’s congressional districts to the GOP.
If it had passed, the new map would have split the city of Indianapolis into four districts that included large portions of rural Indiana.
Governor Mike Braun (R) had this to say about the result:
“I am very disappointed that a small group of misguided State Senators have partnered with Democrats to reject this opportunity to protect Hoosiers with fair maps and to reject the leadership of President Trump. Ultimately, decisions like this carry political consequences. I will be wo
