WESTPORT, N.Y. (WCAX) - The Albany Stratton Veteran Affairs Medical Center has opened what officials say is the first veterans’ food shelf in New York at the Westport Community-Based Outpatient Clinic .
Dom Dominguez of the Stratton Veteran Affairs Medical Center said the idea began during a visit to the Westport clinic nine months ago, when veterans expressed a clear need.
“They said food. We need food,” Dominguez said.
The medical center partnered with the Regional Food Bank to create the VAMC’s first food shelf at a community-based outpatient clinic.
