LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Indiana Senators have rejected the proposed House redistricting bill.
Senators voted 19 to 31, bringing HB 1032 to a stop.
“Today marks the end of a battle,” said Indiana Democratic Chair Karen Tallian. “The IndianaGeneral Assembly has rules. Redistricting happens every ten years. These rules are not obstacles. They are safety nets. Upholding the rules is not an act of weakness – it is an act of responsibility: maintaining the integrity of the process and preserving the legitimacy and credibility of the institution. Today, that’s what my former colleagues did by rejecting this partisan sideshow.”
The bill had passed out of the House and a Senate committee quickly within the last week, despite pushback from some Hoosiers.
