Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi criticized the government's actions over the past six weeks, saying none of the 14 bills introduced addressed the needs of Albertans
Alberta MLAs concluded a tumultuous fall 2025 sitting on Wednesday evening, which was marked by the government’s repeated use of the notwithstanding clause, omnibus bills and the threat of recall plaguing the assembly with nearly one-quarter of MLAs now facing recall petitions.
This fall sitting, the government passed 14 bills — two of which used the notwithstanding clause on four pieces of legislation. It got heated in the legislature as 21 MLAs including Premier Danielle Smith are facing recall petitions and the sitting, which was scheduled to end on Nov. 27, was extended by two weeks.
