NEW BEDFORD, Mass. —
A Lakeville, Massachusetts, firefighter was released from the hospital Thursday after a chimney fell on her while responding to a large fire at a condominium complex Sunday.
Lakeville Deputy Fire Chief Pamela Garant suffered serious injuries while battling the fire, which broke out at the complex on Ashley Lane in Middleborough.
First responders had to free Garant from the chimney, and she was hospitalized for her injuries. After five days in the hospital, she was released to a round of applause from fellow firefighters.
"We're all thinking of her," said Fire Chief Michael O'Brien. "The fire service is a brotherhood, and we all look out for each other, and seeing all these firefighters from different communities show up is pretty moving."
