DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Superior Middle School welcomed students back to class Thursday after a man crashed a car into the school after allegedly shooting a police officer.

Superior Middle School officials and students said it was a typical school day.

But, parent Jesse Peterson said that leading up to it, he had to have difficult conversations with his 12-year-old daughter.

Peterson was shaken after hearing that Sunday’s officer-involved shooting suspect crashed into his daughter’s school, armed with a gun, and barricaded himself inside that empty building for 4 hours.

The damage forced students to learn virtually during the cleanup.

Now, four days later, they’re back to class in person.
