CLEVELAND, Ohio — Three Northeast Ohio hospitals — University Hospitals, MetroHealth System and Summa Health —collectively spent $1.23 billion to benefit their communities in Northeast Ohio in 2024, according to reports recently released by the health systems.

And a fourth, the Cleveland Clinic, reported an additional $1.49 billion in community impact spending, although that figure includes benefits tied to its operations in Ohio, Florida and Nevada. The Clinic did not provide Ohio-specific numbers.

UH reported spending $720 million in community benefits last year, while MetroHealth spent $306.1 million and Summa -- which switched from nonprofit to for-profit in 2025 -- reported spending $212.9 million.
