A boil notice has been lifted for 24,000 households and businesses, marking the end of nearly two weeks of water supply issues in a town.

People living and working in Tunbridge Wells have endured problems since November 29, when an issue began at Pembury treatment works.

On December 3, water began to be restored, but a precautionary boil notice had been in place since, despite South East Water (SEW) stating the water was “chemically safe”.

Now, 10 days later, the firm says the tap water is safe to drink, and the boil notice has been lifted.

The firm explained it had made changes to its treatment processes to meet strict standards and flushed the network to be sure the water is safe, as well as carrying out sampling at its water treatment works.
