A Maryland man accused of prowling through Virginia neighborhoods and trying to break into homes was caught after a late-night call sent police flooding the area, authorities said.
Officers arrested Brad Edmonds, 52, after responding to multiple reports of attempted burglaries and suspicious activity in McLean earlier this month, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The investigation began around 8:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, when officers were called to the 600 block of Chain Bridge Road in McLean for a larceny report, police said.
Home surveillance footage showed a suspect stealing a bag from a vehicle parked inside a garage and attempting to enter the residence four days earlier, according to the agency.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division took over the case, police said.
Four days later, on Tuesday, Dec. 9, officers were dispatched shortly after 10:30 p.m. to the 1900 block of Horse Shoe Drive in Tysons for a trespassing call.
A homeowner reported an unknown man in her backyard who fled when a floodlight turned on, police said.
Officers saturated the area and spotted a suspect matching the description boarding a nearby bus, police said. When the bus stopped and the suspect exited, officers arrested Edmonds, authorities said.
Through their investigation, detectives linked Edmonds to the attempted burglary reported on Dec. 5 in McLean, along with another attempted burglary that occurred the same day in the 1200 block of Crest Lane in McLean, police said.
Edmonds was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with:
- Two counts of attempted burglary;
- Two counts of wearing a mask in public;
- Unlawful entry into a vehicle;
- Possession of burglarious tools;
- Petit larceny;
- Trespassing.
He is being held without bond.
Detectives are asking anyone with information related to these incidents to contact the McLean Police District.
