A New Orleans attorney is accused of defrauding her client of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office has filed pleadings accusing Tanzanika Ruffin of misconduct, a move that could get her license removed. Advertisement

Ruffin is accused of asking her client for at least $250,000, which the district attorney's office says was never needed.

Pleadings filed by the state say Ruffin needed the cash to cover restitution, but prosecutors said the case never called for restitution.

In that complaint, Ruffin is also accused of forging signatures and presenting fake non-disclosure agreements.

The Metropolitan Crime Commission says the allegations could have ethical, federal and state implications.
