CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A new report calls 2025 Ohio’s “most lethal year” yet as domestic violence homicides increase across the Buckeye state.

The Ohio Domestic Violence Network counted 157 domestic violence homicides between July 2024 and June 2025 -- a 37% increase from the year before.

Of those 157 cases, 144 involved firearms, the report says.

Hamilton County is one area with the highest number of fatal domestic violence cases, right behind Franklin and Cuyahoga counties.

According to the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office, there are 208 people facing at least one misdemeanor or felony domestic violence charge so far this year, starting Jan. 1.

That number seems low, says Juwana Glover, YWCA’s Chief Program Officer of Greater Cincinnati.
