President Donald Trump was sued by preservationists on Friday, seeking to halt plans for a White House ballroom until the project undergoes architectural review and receives congressional approval.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation filed the lawsuit in federal court, arguing the project must be paused until it completes comprehensive design reviews, allows for public comment and secures approval from Congress.

The group said Trump improperly fast-tracked the ballroom, violating the Administrative Procedure Act and the National Environmental Policy Act, and exceeded his constitutional authority by moving forward without congressional authorization for a project of that scale.
