As layoffs at Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) loom, IBEW 410, the union representing BGE workers, is responding, voicing concern about what it could mean for workers and ratepayers.
In a statement provided by BGE earlier this week, the company said it has taken steps to optimize the business based on operational needs and made a decision to scale back on certain projects, leading to a reduction in work. The statement said BGE “has made structural changes including a reduction in force.”
“Right now, it’s a waiting game for me,” said one BGE employee who wanted to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation.
“They’re saying it’s not financial,” he added. “They’re saying it’s work related. But it’s not that it’s work related. We have plenty of work. It’s all about money.
