STATEN ISLAND, NY -- The New York City Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert for Saturday, Dec. 13.
The alert begins at 7 p.m. and runs through 2 p.m. Sunday as the city prepares for 1 to 3 inches of snow this weekend. According to the department, precipitation will begin around 9 p.m. Saturday, with the heaviest snow expected between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday.
The department advises New York residents to stay off roads during active precipitation. If travel is necessary, drive slowly and carefully.
To assist with icy roadways, the department will begin spreading brine on miles of highways, ramps and shoulders starting at midnight Friday, as well as spreading pounds of salt on roads, highways and bike lanes at the first sign of precipitation. Bike lanes will be serviced at the
