LANSING, Mich. — A federal court has ordered the Trump administration to restore a FEMA disaster mitigation program that officials attempted to shut down, ruling the move violated federal law and the separation of powers.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and a coalition of 22 states and the District of Columbia won their lawsuit against the administration's attempt to eliminate the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program, which provides funding to help communities prepare for natural disasters.
"The BRIC program has saved lives, and I am relieved that the Court has rejected the Trump Administration's attempt to illegally divert critical infrastructure funding that helps our communities prepare for and withstand natural disasters," Nessel said in a statement.
